Mine sweeper RM-KA-02

The RM-KA-02 humanitarian mine clearance machine, developed and produced by ĐĐ Special vehicles, is based on a tracked chassis with total weight of app. 14 t, protected from explosive blast by 10 mm ARMOX armoured steel plates.

It is a remote-controlled ground based system designed to safely clear small to dense vegetation and neutralize all types anti-tanks (AT) and anti-personnel (AP) mines from off-road areas inaccessible to large area mine sweepers. An operator use a portable control panel to remotely controls the system.

The RM-KA-02 system incorporates improvements to the original RM-KA-01 midi-flail identified during field evaluations is based on a tracked chassis powered by stronger Perkins diesel engine, a 2000 mm wide detachable flail head, and an remote control subsystem that provides for reliable operation at distances of up to 800 meters. Blast and fragment survivability technology has also been integrated onto the chassis and includes blast shields and protected hydraulic lines and hoses. The system uses an industry standard quick detach mounting plate which makes it simple to remove the flailing head for maintenance or to mount any other standard material handling or earth moving implement. With clearing speed up to 2.000 m²/h the machine is close to heavy demining machines.

Clearance Methodology

The rotor turns the 36 chains of the flail unit up to 600 rpm. An mushroom shaped strenghtened steel hammers are attached on chains. As the machine work through a suspect area at between 0.3 and 1.2 kmph, chains will destroy or deactivate anti-tanks and anti-personnel mines. The system achieves an average ground penetration of more than 250 mm.

The RM-KA-02 was tested and certified by Croatian Mine Action Center (CROMAC) for anti-personnel and anti-tanks mine-field cleaning at Croatia, from rocks in Dalmatia to heavy wet fields in Slavonia.
